Planned Developments in Cancun

In recent years the area in and around Cancun has seen a huge amount of growth and development which has spread all the way along the coast to Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. In the first 6 months of 2016 the International Airport in Cancun saw a total of 10.78 million arrivals and departures; a 7.76% increase in figures from 2015! As you can imagine this has had a huge impact upon many of the areas. As a result there are a number of exciting planned developments in Cancun.

The Playa Mujeres neighbourhood is found just 10km north of Cancun and its Hotel Zone, and is becoming an increasingly exclusive area with a number of planned developments. Most of the people who come here are looking to stay away from the more boisterous and youthful Hotel Zone which maintains a Spring Break vibe. Developments in Cancun within this neighborhood are already beginning to take shape. For example, at the V&V Marina, there are plans underway for more bars, restaurants, and shopping malls, and furthermore a new Garza Blanca Resort has been planned for the plot of land right next to the current Villa del Palmar in Cancun.

Riviera Maya

If you head southwards from Cancun, further down the coast, there is a huge amount of growth happening in the Riviera Maya region, specifically in the area known as the “Golden Mile”. In this area impressive investment has drawn in some of the most luxurious brands and resorts in the world; a Garza Blanca Resort is planned for 2018, and Disney has already invested $800-million in the construction of their planned DreamWorks Theme Park. This theme park will showcase Shrek and Madagascar themed areas, and will be the very first of its kind in Latin America. Furthermore the Golden Mile will also be home to the very first Cirque du Soleil Theme Park in the world is due to open here in 2018, too!
