What is a Job anyway?

According to Wikipedia: “A job, or occupation, is a person's role in society. More specifically, a job is an activity, often regular and performed in exchange for payment ("for a living”)”. The notion of having to “work for living” is somewhat ironic as for many of us it feels like we live to work, rather than work to live. Being truly inspired by your job is a great bonus.
What constitutes a job?
While the general consensus is that we have just one job, you could argue that human beings have many jobs at once, including being an employee, parent, volunteer etc.
What is the difference between a job, a profession and a career?
Generally, it is considered that a profession refers to a job that you have been specifically trained to perform, which includes teaching jobs, doctors, lawyers. accountants etc: jobs that would require a special certification in order to practice. A career refers to the whole scheme of your working life, the direction in which you project yourself. For example a job is part of your career path.
Job categories
Sometimes a job is categorized according to the number of hours you work per week and can vary from country to country. For example, in one country you might work 40 hours a week and be categorized as full-time, whereas in another country, 37 hours a week is full time. Likewise, you might work part-time, seasonal, freelance or by contract. You can also be employed on a permanent or temporary basis.
Unpaid jobs
There are number of ways you can work in an unpaid job, whether as a volunteer for a charity or as part of your work experience to graduate from a particular college course or profession. Many people these days opt to work as an intern in a company in order to receive valuable work experience and to get a foot in the door of a major corporation.
Life expectancy
An element that not many people consider when choosing a job is life expectancy. According to Wikipedia, the type of job you have can affect how long you might live. Results suggest that hard labor and manual work can negatively affect your life expectancy as well as stressful professions that bring increased levels of anxiety and stress. What is perhaps most interesting is the way that the happier you are in your job, the more likely it will have a positive effect on your lifespan.
